COVID Update - June 9th

Jun. 09, 2020

Good Afternoon all you Baseball and T-Ball Players,

We wanted to send you an update on where things sit for a season to proceed over the summer - so please take time to read this entire email and check out the links we have provided as there is lots of information.  Also we have some information below for all the players on a little contest!

The first thing we will update everyone on is that the City of Calgary began allowing organizations to acquire permits for Baseball fields beginning on June 1st and on a month by month by month basis after that.  As you can imagine this is taking a bit of time for the city to process all permit requests.  We are however limited to only have practices in smaller groups at this time.  It is our intention at the moment to acquire our necessary permits to begin providing some sort of season to all our members.  There will be more info at the bottom of this email pertaining to this - so please read on.

The second thing to consider is that Little League Alberta (in conjunction with numerous other organizations) are lobbying various government levels to allow games in July and August.  You can find some of those details here  on the proposals to move forward.  We are hopeful that they will be successful and we will be able to have games over the summer.

The third thing to be in mind of is that we as a board are pouring through both the above mentioned Little League Alberta Document and guidelines provided to us by Little League International to ensure we check off all the boxes to provide a safe environment for everyone to play in.  In the near future we will release a condensed set of rules and guidelines we will be following for the 2020 Season, so please be on the lookout for those coming through.  Needless to say how we operate this season will not look like how we have operated in the past, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work through all the challenges.

So with all of this information what you need to know is that we as a Board are currently finalizing our safety plan, confirming our insurance coverage through Little League Alberta and securing our permits so we can proceed forward.  This safety plan will outline everyone’s responsibilities in order for us to begin practicing - and we will be communicating that information in the very near future.  Additionally it is important to note that based upon recommendations from both Little League and by our multiple levels of Government we will be doing a staged roll-out beginning with our Minors division and above.  A final decision on Rookie Ball (previously called Machine Pitch) and T-Ball will be made in the weeks following our initial roll-out.  We believe this decision is prudent in order to ensure our protocols are in line with requirements and it will also allow us to further evaluate some challenges around equipment usage at those age groups.

Additionally when we move forward things will move quickly, so please be prepared!  I know we are all ready to have this happen!  Also assuming we can move forward towards games - we are hopeful that we will be able to finish our season by Mid-September at the latest (with a target of Labour Day Weekend in mind).  This time frame will allow us to provide a normal season length compared to our Spring Season.  We thought it would be prudent to share that information for your planning purposes.

In summary, it is our intention to begin setting up to have some sort of programming/season this summer.  We are diligently working through all the requirements we will need to meet for this.  Additionally this season will be figured out on the fly - and we appreciate your continued understanding and patience.

CONTEST TIME!!!

We would like our players to come up with a unique and creative logo for our 2020 Covid Season.  So have your players create something we could use on a T-shirt - and email it to us by June 21st!  Make sure you incorporate the CLL as part of your design!  We look forward to seeing what all our players come up with!
